The Roles of a Parent in Islam

In Islam, parents are held in high regard. According to Allah, children must submit to their parents and treat them with the utmost respect. The fulfillment and joy of parents are essential to children’s success in life. They must cooperate with them during their trying moments and drop their “wings” of pity towards them. This degree of manner can only be attained by children whose parents have guided them in accordance with Islam’s rules, which is their primary duty.

Positive Name

After their child is born, parents’ main duty is to uphold Islamic customs and give them a decent name. This is due to the impact each name has on the bearer. According to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH);

“The two of your names that Allah loves the most are Abd-Allah and Abd Al-Rahman.” Islamic: 2132

Instilling the Islamic law

Instilling the proper beliefs and rights of Allah in children is one of a parent’s main duties. The religious practices that will draw people nearer to Allah must come after it. The most delicate Islamic principle that delineates the entry point is called Tawheed. The Prophet Muhammad, S.A.W.

“Muadh! Do you realize what rights Allah has over His servants and what those servants have in regard to Allah? “Allah and his Apostle know best,” I remarked.

In response, he said, “Allah’s right over His followers is that they worship Him alone from any spouse. Additionally, they have a right to Him because He does not chastise those who worship Him without also engaging in polytheism.

The Right to a Good Education

The most important aspect of parenting is giving children the proper instruction. The best present parents can give their children in Islam is a good education since it enables them to become good Muslims and fulfill Allah’s demands. They will benefit from this in the hereafter as well. Tirmidhi quotations from a hadith;

“The appropriate upbringing and education are the best gifts a father can give his children.”

Fair Treatment

Each child in the family has their own place and rights. Especially when it comes to spending and giving, he must be treated equally. In one of his sayings, our dear Prophet Muhammad PBUH stressed the importance of treating youngsters properly;

Whoever is the girls’ guardian and treats them well, they will serve as his defense against the fires of hell. Muslim: 2629; Bukhari: 5649

This proves showing an undue preference for children by gender is a sinful act. This arise feeling of hatred and jealousy among siblings that continues for the rest of their lives.

Appropriate Financing

Fathers must make the best financial decisions for their kids. Mothers are not responsible for paying for this, and even if they do, it is the best form of sadaqah. Fathers have a sole responsibility to support their families and provide for their children’s basic needs. They need to figure out how to raise their children appropriately. a hadith from the Prophet of Allah, Muhammad (PBUH);

If a man neglects others who are depending on him, that is a big sin for him.

Every parent will be performing constant acts of kindness for their own benefit as well as bringing about positive change in our society if they take parental responsibilities seriously and make sure that their children are authentic successors of Islam.
